Layers and Specifications of Awara Mattress

awara mattress layers

Awara may be a 13” mattress but it has a relatively simple design of layers. The Awara mattress consists of a natural cotton/wool cover, then a 4” layer of Dunlop latex, then the 9” pocketed coil system. Let’s explore what each means and does.

  • Organic cotton/wool cover

The first thing you’ll notice after you unbox your Awara mattress is the soft 100% organic cotton and wool cover. The cover does add to the feel of the mattress and makes it slightly more comfortable, but it greatly increases the breathability of the mattress. That’s because both cotton and wool are cooling materials that stay fresh and dry. Under the cover, there is the natural Silica fire barrier which is better than all chemical fire barriers.

  • Natural Dunlop latex

The main comfort layer of Awara is its 4” Dunlop latex that is both natural and eco-friendly. Most latex hybrid mattresses use 2 to 3 inches of latex on top of the coil system but Awara is using 4 inches which is very generous. That being said the 4 inches of latex cushion is hardly soft and barely offers any hug. This makes the mattress more suitable for average and heavyweight sleepers than lightweight sleepers.

  • Pocketed Coil System

Finally, for the support, you have the 9” individually wrapped pocketed coil system. This adds to the overall support of the mattress but in a different way. Pocketed coils are called individual for a reason. Each person sleep will have a different response from the coil system to improve their overall sleep experience. This is called individual support the Awara pocketed coil system apples it wonderfully. The only issue here is that it does not add to the overall comfort of the mattress as it still might feel somewhat firm for side sleepers

Comfort and Support for Light Weight Sleepers

(Under 140 lbs):

Let’s take a look at how Awara faired with lighter people and what we thought after testing.

  • Lightweight side sleepers

Unless you know you prefer firmer mattresses despite the fact that you’re lightweight, Awara might be too firm for you. Of course, you can always give it a try but remember that if you had issues with firmer mattresses before then you might just end up returning this one.

  • Lightweight back sleepers.

can consider Awara since it is firm enough for back support but only if the sleeper prefers bouncy no hug feeling mattresses. If, however, you like mattresses to have a little bit of give then this might not work for your lightweight body needs.

.

  • Lightweight stomach sleepers.

Within the lightweight category, stomach sleepers are the best fit for Awara as it holds up pretty nicely which is what most stomach sleepers need.

(140 – 240 lbs):

According to our testing, Awara actually gives the average weight sleepers what they need in terms of both comfort and support. This is especially true in for those in the middle of the scale and up meaning 190 lbs and up.

  • Average weight side sleepers

Unless you like very soft mattresses, Awara should for the most part work for you. We did feel a little bit of pressure on the shoulders during the test but nothing too major. That’s because of the 4 inches of Dunlop latex.

  • Average weight back sleepers

will most likely be the happiest on this mattress. Awara feels like it was made for them with its well balanced sink in and hug for this category.

  • Average weight stomach sleepers.

Same as above, these sleepers will be more than happy with the Awara mattress.

(240 lbs or more):

Awara is one of the few mattresses recommended for heavier people because of its amazing support, longevity, and height.

  • Heavyweight side sleepers:

Most heavyweight sleepers are concerned about how long this mattress would hold and if it will support their weight. This is not the main concern here as Awara passed the test with flying colors. However, the real concern here is what if it’s too stiff for side sleeping. We did feel Awara putting some pressure on the shoulder, but we believe that it can fit a heavyweight side sleeper

  • Heavyweight back sleepers

No issues here since Awara is both supportive and tall enough for the sleeping needs of heavier back sleepers.

  • Heavyweight stomach sleepers.

Even better than back sleeper because Awara will not disappoint when it comes to spinal support for stomach sleepers.

Awara Mattress Firmness Rating

Awara mattress has a luxury firm feel with a 7.5 rating out of 10 (10 being firmest).

Like explained earlier, the mattress has great support with little sink in and hug. The Dunlop latex is also somewhat firm giving the mattress an overall firm feel. Awara is great if you like firm mattresses and want something that feels bouncer than most mattresses.

Awara Mattress Durability

No worries and concerns here and here is why. First, remember that the mattress has a one-year sleep trial and a lifetime warranty. It’s not just about that of course, which bring us to the second reason why we think Awara is so durable.

Looking at the three main components of the mattress, the pocketed coil system is the most durable type of coil, the Dunlop latex is the most durable kind of foam and cotton is the most durable cover. Awara is a package of stuff built to last then guaranteed to last by a lifetime warranty.

Awara Mattress Affordability and Value

Awara has exceptional value. For a hybrid latex at 13” total with a 4” Dunlop latex, lifetime warranty, and great reputation this mattress is certainly worth its asking price.

If you want a budget latex hybrid then Awara is a great consideration especially when you factor in the longevity of the mattresses.

Awara Mattress Edge Support

It’s very rare for a mattress in a box to have such strong edge support. We were shocked (in a good way) to found out that Awara has great edge support. Both sleeping and sitting on the edge is comfortable. We can report no issues with the Awara mattress edge support.

Awara Mattress Cooling

Another area where this great mattress shines is cooling and breathability. Pocketed coil mattresses are usually cooler than the rest of the mattresses and Awara is both a pocketed coil mattress and a natural latex mattress. The cooling factor of this mattress is very apparent as we never once felt warm during the test and happy to report that overheating will not be an issue here.

Awara Mattress For Couples Rating

Awara may not be for everyone especially lighter people but it is certainly a great find for couples.

  •  Motions Transfer

because the mattress is not all-foam there is a slight motion transfer between couples but nothing too major.

  • Noise

latex is noiseless and the pocketed coils are in pockets making them also as noiseless. We never noticed any noise issue with the Awara mattresses.

  •  Sex

bouncy, quick to respond feel with great longevity, Awara is excellent for amorous activities.

Awara Mattress Warranty

What’s amazing about the lifetime warranty of Awara is that it’s completely non-prorated even though it’s for a lifetime. This means that the mattress will not lose value which in turn means you’ll get a full replacement when the warranty takes effect.

Awara will even pay for the shipping fee of the mattress in case of replacement. However, if no defect was found upon inspection then the customer would pay $100 for shipping and get their mattress back.

The warranty like most hybrids covers any sagging greater than one and half-inch (1.5”) that was not the result of customer abuse of poor foundation.

Overall the Awara mattress offers a great warranty to its customers.

Awara Mattress Return Policy and Sleep Trial

Awara has a very standard return policy that has been going around in the industry which is a full refund if the customer was not satisfied with their purchase. The period for the sleep trial is 365 days which is very generous.

Awara Mattress FAQ’s

Yes, Awara is an adjustable friendly mattress even if it has coils in it. The way it is done is that the border of the coil system is cut to allow the mattress to be used on an adjustable base.

Awara is a natural and green mattress. We did notice some off gassing but since there are no harmful chemicals we were not concerned about the odors. Also, they quickly dissipated in a few hours.

Currently, Awara has no showrooms but they do offer the 365 day sleep trial with 100% refund so no harm in giving them a try.

Yes, they have up to 0% APR with up to 24 months financing.
